Why did you decide to join The Lion’s Pantry team?

I decided to join the Lion’s Pantry Team in order to fight food insecurity on campus. I grew up in Guatemala, a country plagued with many problems, including food insecurity and malnutrition. It was a result of growing there and realizing the problems that food insecurity can cause that made me passionate about fighting it.

What is your role with The Lion’s Pantry? What are you looking forward to bringing or implementing to The Lion’s Pantry in the upcoming academic year?

I am the Cub’s Pantry Coordinator. I look forward to expanding the presence and influence of the Cub Pantries on campus. I plan on working a lot on promoting them through social media, create outreach events, as well as coordinate campaigns to teach students about food insecurity and resources to combat it present in campus.

What is your favorite part about working with The Lion’s Pantry?

My favorite part of working with the Lion’s Pantry has been working with other people who are passionate about fighting food insecurity. It makes me really happy to be proud of an organization made up of people who want to make a change provide a very important resource and aid on campus.

What are you most looking forward to for the upcoming academic year with regard to your role with the Pantry?

I am looking forward to making the cub pantries more well known and make them one of the leading resources to fight food insecurity on campus. I am also looking forward to continue volunteering at the pantry and working extensively with the executive team.

If you could talk to an incoming student interested in joining The Lion’s Pantry, what would you like them to know about this organization?

The Lion’s Pantry is not only an organization, but also a community of hard working leaders and innovators who are passionate about helping those less fortunate. We work extensively towards keeping the pantry and cub pantries open to the Penn State community. We welcome new additions to the club, and you will play a very important role in fighting against food insecurity.
Enjoy what you do and be passionate about it! 🙂
