Samantha Powell is a sophomore majoring in Economics at Penn State. She currently serves as the secretary of The Lion’s Pantry for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Why did you decide to join The Lion’s Pantry team?
I heard about it during my SHO TIME orientation, and I decided to check it out. I joined and found the experience rewarding, and the people are very sweet. I wanted to step into a position with more leadership, which is what encouraged me to become the Secretary.

What is your role with The Lion’s Pantry? What are you looking forward to bringing or implementing to The Lion’s Pantry in the upcoming academic year?
My role as Secretary is primarily communications, especially through email. I hope to expand on communications, whether bringing ideas to social media, newsletters, or outreach. I am also interested in possibly helping gather anonymous data to be more aware of our client’s needs and feedback, such as if people want more options for gluten allergies or if people want more international food options.

What are you most looking forward to for the upcoming academic year with regard to your role with the Pantry?
I look forward to getting more involved with The Pantry’s operations and getting to know the other Exec members better.

If you could talk to an incoming student interested in joining The Lion’s Pantry, what would you like them to know about this organization?
It is what you make of it. If you want to take on a shift, go for it. If you want to sign up for a workday, go for it. If you want to apply to be on Exec, go for it. The club is what you make of it. Plus, the people are great!
